Rotary Juice Screen
  "High Performance way of Removing Suspended Solids from Liquids” this “Jagtap” principle introduces liquid under minimum head loss conditions and rotates the screen in the opposite direction so that maximum shear velocity is achieved. This is used for fast separation of solids from liquid. This principle not only carries the operation at reduced cost, but also increases substantially the quantity of raw juice handled on a specific screen size. Screening efficiency is also improved as, in all cases; the raw juice is introduced tangentially on to the contra-rotating face. Because of the shallow approach, this system also increases the percentage of Bagacillo capture off the screen surface. Drums rotating in same direction as that of the juice flow, causes flooding of the juice adversely affecting screening efficiency.
  A fine gradient is provided, while mounting the screen, towards discharge end. The gradient is kept to a minimum to allow increased retention period. While higher percentage of juice recovery is assured in this arrangement, it also helps improve drying of Bagacillo to some extent.

TECHNOLOGY OVERVIEW

The JAGTAP Rotary Screen is installed in a pumping station of a combined sewerage system to remove suspended solids from raw wastewater. When installed in a channel of the pumping station, the rotary screen traps suspended solids by Wedge Wire Screen. The raw wastewater flows into the rotating screen and is filtered when leaving the screen from the inside to the outside. Suspended solids are trapped on the inside surface of the screen, and raked upward as the screen rotates. The solids collected at the top of the inside of the screen are flushed out with flushing water down into a discharge trough for collection.

The JAGTAP externally-fed rotary drum screens is a reliable self-cleaning wedge wire screen for both industrial screen applications and municipal wastewater operations. This screening technology performs particularly well in wastewater
with high oil or grease loadings as well as scum applications that can blind other types of screens.

The JAGTAP has slotted wedge wire and cylindrical drums that rotate on two pillow block bearings. They can handle flows from 25 to 908 m3/hr. The screen slot openings range from 0.25 to 2.5 mm. The rotary drum is driven by a motor fitted to a shaft-mounted gearbox.

The JAGTAP has three methods of maintaining clean screen openings. The doctor blade scrapes the solids from the face of the screen surface. The filtrate back washes while exiting the bottom of the screen and a shower on an automatic cycle washes the screen drum from inside

METHOD OF OPERATION

Raw influent enters a headbox which distributes the flow evenly across the full length of the rear, upper external surface of the rotating drum. As water passes through the screen, solids are retained on the outside of the screen drum and are carried by rotation around to the front of the screen, where they are removed by a fixed doctor blade. The screened water cascades down inside the drum and falls through the bottom, creating a vigorous backwash action. This action, together with the use of internal water sprays, self-cleans the drum on every revolution.
